commencing on April 1st, 2025. We are offering a permanent, full-time position. The prospective candidate is required to teach 13 to 17 hours per week during the semester depending on the additional tasks required by the position (13-17 SWS).
We are looking for sociologists who have completed a doctorate in sociology in the research field of youth, family, identity or participation. Profound knowledge and experience in university teaching are required. The position is a central mid-level position of the Institute of Sociology and intended to oversee not only the core sociology degree programs but also the teaching offerings in teacher education.
Your tasks:
- Conducting courses (seminars, lectures), especially in the modules “Socialization, Education and Life Forms” and “Educational Processes and Social Change” as part of the Bachelor's, Master's and doctoral courses at the Institute of Sociology for the teacher training courses in Social Sciences, Educational Sciences and the subject courses in Sociology,
- Willingness to offer subject-specific didactic courses for social science teacher training (e.g. subject-specific didactics, practical phases) in the Social Sciences Teaching Unit if required,
- In addition, you will participate in the Institute's research projects, in the further development of the degree programs and in academic self-administration.
Our expectations:
- Completed university degree in sociology or a comparable social science,
- Completed doctorate in sociology (or a submitted dissertation, i.e. an opened procedure),
- Experience in the conception and implementation of own courses along the above-mentioned research priorities.
Optional criteria:
- Experience in the field of empirical social research desired,
- didactic competence as well as the willingness to make regular use of appropriate further training courses offered by the University of Münster,
- very good written and spoken English skills.
Soft skills:
- very good communication, organizational and conceptual skills as well as interest in student matters.
To obtain civil-servant status (in accordance with § 46 LVO), candidates must be employed in a full-time position lasting three years and six months following his/her studies or lasting one year following the conferral of his/her doctoral degree. If the candidate has not yet fulfilled this prerequisite, he/she can be hired as a regular employee (EG 13 TV-L) with the option of obtaining civil-servant status at a later time. If the candidate fails to meet the other criteria for obtaining civil-servant status, he/she can remain employed permanently as a regular employee.
